Applications for the Balfour Project Fellowship 2024/25 are now open!

Balfour Project Fellowship programme has two major components: training and advocacy. The Balfour Project training programme consists of knowledge and skills workshops led by experts on topics including international law, history, psychology of conflict, public speaking, campaigning, and event planning.participate in an expert-led seminar and training programme. Fellows are also expected to make a tangible contribution to the work of the Balfour Project by campaigning for justice, security, and equal rights through advocacy and educational activities within their academic institution and/or with the wider public.

The Fellowship is open to final year undergraduate, postgraduate, and graduate students based in the UK.

This year, the Balfour Project Fellowship Programme is offering a small number of paid fellowships for those with experience in advocacy, education, or social media. These positions will be called: Advocacy Fellow, Social Media Fellow, and Education Fellow. They are distinguished from the Associate Fellows as they are specialised roles that will require more working hours on specific projects, for which there will be a small budget. FAQs

  • When does the fellowship programme take place? 
    The fellowship programme begins in October and runs throughout the academic year, finishing in June 2025.
  • Where does the fellowship programme take place? 
    The fellowship programme largely takes place online, however there are two mandatory events in or around London – a weekend away (in term one) and an in-person workshop day (in term two). Certain workshops will be hybrid (online/in-person), where there will be the opportunity to join in London for those who can. Fellows are also invited to the Balfour Project’s annual conference which takes place in London in term three. Several optional social events will be taking place in London throughout the year.
  • Does the Balfour Project offer support for travel costs? 
    The charity will cover the costs of those traveling from within the UK but outside of London for the two events mentioned above. Further support for other occasions may also be available.
  • How much time are Associate Fellows required to commit to the programme?
    The time commitment for the fellowship programme can vary depending on the programme calendar, the project in which you are involved, and your own availability. There will be a lecture or workshop around once a fortnight or once a month (depending on the month), each lasting around 1-2 hours and usually taking place in the evening on weekdays. Additionally, Associate Fellows will work on small-scale projects, such as organising an event on campus.  The specific amount of time that this may involve will vary, but how and when you work towards it will depend on your own availability.
